United Nations investigators have accused Israel of committing acts of genocide in the Gaza Strip, following months of intense military operations that have left thousands of Palestinians dead and millions displaced. The findings, contained in a report released this week, mark one of the strongest condemnations yet from the international community regarding Israel’s conduct in the ongoing conflict.
According to the UN Commission of Inquiry, Israel’s actions—including the large-scale targeting of civilians, destruction of homes and essential infrastructure, and the deliberate blocking of humanitarian aid—amount to genocidal acts under international law. The investigators stated that the scale and systematic nature of the attacks indicated an intent to destroy, in whole or in part, the Palestinian population in Gaza.
The commission highlighted that indiscriminate bombardments had wiped out entire families, devastated neighborhoods, and crippled basic services such as healthcare and education. It further accused Israel of weaponizing food, water, and medicine by restricting their entry into Gaza, thereby worsening what the UN describes as one of the most severe humanitarian crises of modern times.
Israel has consistently rejected such allegations, maintaining that its operations are targeted at Hamas and other militant groups accused of launching attacks on Israeli territory. Officials insist that the military takes measures to minimize civilian casualties, blaming Hamas for operating within densely populated areas and using civilians as human shields.
