President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended heartfelt condolences to the management and staff of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) and the United Bank for Africa (UBA) following separate fire incidents that recently engulfed Afriland Towers in Lagos. The tragedies, which caused significant disruption to operations and damage to property, have drawn concern across the country.
In a statement released by his media office, the President described the fire outbreaks as “deeply unfortunate” and expressed sympathy to all those directly affected. He assured the affected institutions of the Federal Government’s support in their recovery efforts, while urging Nigerians to keep the victims in their thoughts and prayers.
Tinubu praised the swift response of emergency services, including firefighters, security agencies, and volunteers who worked tirelessly to contain the blazes and prevent further loss. He noted that their courage and professionalism underscored the importance of coordinated disaster response in safeguarding public and private assets.
The President further acknowledged the critical roles that both FIRS and UBA play in Nigeria’s economic architecture, stressing that the temporary setbacks caused by the fire must not weaken their contributions to national development. He encouraged the institutions to take the incident as an opportunity to strengthen safety protocols and disaster preparedness across their operations.
Tinubu also called for a comprehensive investigation into the causes of the fire outbreaks, with a view to preventing future recurrences. He emphasized that lessons must be drawn from the tragedies, especially in the areas of infrastructure safety, emergency planning, and workplace security.
The President reiterated his administration’s commitment to prioritising occupational and building safety standards across the country. He assured that the government would continue to work with stakeholders in both the public and private sectors to enforce compliance with safety regulations in high-rise and public buildings.
While offering solidarity, Tinubu urged the management and staff of both FIRS and UBA to remain resilient in the face of adversity. He expressed optimism that with collective resolve, the institutions would quickly restore normalcy and continue serving Nigerians with renewed dedication.
