Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has described the emergence of the newly installed Emir of Zuru, Major General Muhammadu Sani Sami (rtd), as an act ordained by God, stressing that his ascension to the revered throne was guided by divine will. The governor made the remarks during the official presentation of the staff of office to the monarch in Zuru, Kebbi State, where traditional rulers, government officials, and community members gathered in celebration.

Idris commended the kingmakers and people of Zuru Emirate for the peaceful selection process, noting that their unity and adherence to tradition reflected the cultural values of the emirate. He explained that the stability of the community was a sign that the choice of Emir Sami was not only legitimate but also divinely inspired. According to him, such harmony is rare and should be cherished in a period when traditional institutions are often plagued by disputes.

The governor also highlighted the importance of traditional rulers in fostering peace, unity, and development at the grassroots level. He assured the new emir of his administration’s support in strengthening the role of the traditional institution as a bridge between government and the people. Idris emphasized that the collaboration between the state government and traditional councils was crucial to tackling insecurity, promoting education, and boosting agriculture in Kebbi.

In his goodwill message, Idris urged the people of Zuru to rally behind their emir, pledging loyalty, obedience, and cooperation for the progress of the emirate. He noted that the monarch’s leadership qualities, proven military background, and commitment to service would be instrumental in guiding the emirate to greater heights.

The newly confirmed Emir, who succeeds his late father, expressed gratitude to God, the government, and the people of Zuru for the confidence reposed in him. He pledged to uphold the legacy of his predecessors by ensuring justice, fairness, and development across the emirate. He also promised to work closely with security agencies and community leaders to address the challenges facing the region.

Other dignitaries at the event praised the peaceful transition and reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the emir in his new role. Cultural displays, traditional music, and prayers marked the ceremony, reflecting the rich heritage of the Zuru people and their joy at witnessing a new chapter in the emirate’s history.

The event, seen as both a religious and cultural milestone, further reinforced the significance of traditional institutions in northern Nigeria, where emirs continue to play vital roles in governance, conflict resolution, and the preservation of cultural values.
