KYIV, Ukraine (FN) — Ukraine on Tuesday rejected Russia’s claim that it launched a drone attack on one of President Vladimir Putin’s residences, calling the allegation fabricated and accusing Moscow of using the incident to harden its position in ongoing peace negotiations.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga said Russia had produced “no plausible evidence” to support its accusation. “Almost a day passed and Russia still hasn’t provided any plausible evidence to its accusations of Ukraine’s alleged ‘attack on Putin’s residence.’ And they won’t. Because there’s none. No such attack happened,” Sybiga wrote on X.

The Kremlin dismissed Ukraine’s denial, insisting the incident occurred and accusing Kyiv and Western media of attempting to downplay it. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Russia should not be expected to present evidence because all drones were intercepted before reaching the alleged target. He called efforts to question the claim “insane.”

The dispute comes at a critical moment in the nearly four‑year war, as Ukraine says it has accepted about 90 percent of a U.S.-drafted peace plan that includes post‑war security guarantees. Russia has resisted the proposal, saying it does not meet its broader territorial and political demands.

Peskov said the alleged drone incident would force Moscow to “toughen” its negotiating stance. “As for the military consequences, our military knows how, with what, and when to respond,” he told reporters.
