President Donald Trump warned early Friday that the United States is “locked and loaded” and prepared to intervene if Iranian security forces kill peaceful demonstrators amid rapidly escalating protests across the Islamic Republic. The remarks, posted on Trump’s Truth Social account shortly before 3 a.m. Eastern, came as at least six to seven people have been reported dead during nationwide unrest over Iran’s collapsing economy.

The protests, which began in Tehran and spread to multiple cities, were triggered by soaring inflation, a plunging currency, and widespread frustration with the government’s economic management. Human rights groups and local media reported several deaths as security forces clashed with demonstrators demanding relief from worsening living conditions.

“If Iran shoots and violently kills peaceful protesters, which is their custom, the United States of America will come to their rescue,” Trump wrote. “We are locked and loaded and ready to go”.

Iranian officials quickly condemned the statement. Senior security leaders warned that any U.S. interference would destabilize the region and make American forces “legitimate targets,” escalating fears of a broader confrontation in the Middle East.

The unrest marks Iran’s most significant wave of demonstrations in years. Videos circulating on social media show crowds chanting against the government, burning debris, and confronting riot police. State-run media acknowledged at least three deaths, while independent groups reported higher numbers as protests intensified throughout the week.

The crisis comes as Iran continues to struggle under heavy Western sanctions tied to its nuclear program and support for regional militant groups. Economists say the country’s inflation rate—among the highest in the world—has pushed many families to the brink, fueling anger that erupted into the streets.

Trump’s warning adds new pressure to an already volatile situation. While the president did not specify what form U.S. intervention might take, the phrase “locked and loaded” has historically signaled potential military readiness. The administration has not issued further clarification.

Iran’s Supreme National Security Council accused the U.S. and Israel of attempting to exploit the unrest, calling Trump’s comments “provocative” and “dangerous.” Analysts say the exchange raises the risk of miscalculation as both sides navigate a tense moment in regional politics.

The White House has not released an official statement beyond Trump’s post.
