The National Youth Service Corps has released call-up letters for the 2026 Batch ‘A’ Stream II, signaling the final stage of mobilization for thousands of Nigerian graduates. The letters, which became available on the NYSC portal early Monday, contain deployment states and service numbers. Many prospective corps members reported difficulty accessing the portal due to heavy traffic, a recurring issue during call-up releases.
The NYSC, established in 1973, is a mandatory one-year program designed to promote national unity and development. Graduates are deployed across the country to serve in sectors such as education, healthcare, agriculture, and public administration. The call-up letter is a critical document, informing graduates of their assigned state and orientation camp, and is often seen as a rite of passage into national service.
This year’s Batch ‘A’ Stream II orientation exercise is scheduled to begin April 22 and run through May 12 in most states. However, camps in Enugu and Osun will open later, from April 28 to May 18, due to ongoing renovations. Similar adjustments have been made in past years when facilities required upgrades or when security concerns prompted rescheduling.
The release of call-up letters typically generates a mix of excitement and anxiety among graduates. While many celebrate the milestone, others express concern about deployment far from home, safety in certain regions, and living conditions in orientation camps. Social media reactions to Monday’s release reflected both relief at finally accessing the letters and frustration over technical glitches.
Despite these challenges, the NYSC continues to mobilize thousands of graduates annually, reinforcing its role as a cornerstone of Nigeria’s youth development policy. The program remains a unifying experience, bringing together young Nigerians from diverse backgrounds to contribute to national growth.
