UMUAHIA, Nigeria (FN), Abia State Governor Alex Otti has flagged off the construction of 1,200 housing units under the Federal Housing Authority (FHA) in Umuahia, describing the project as a milestone in addressing Nigeria’s housing deficit.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Otti commended President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes affordable housing and infrastructure development. He said the initiative would not only provide shelter but also stimulate economic growth and job creation in the region.

The project, part of a nationwide housing program, is expected to deliver modern, affordable homes to low- and middle-income earners. Officials noted that the development aligns with Tinubu’s broader vision of expanding access to housing and improving living standards across Nigeria.

Nigeria faces a housing deficit estimated at more than 20 million units, with rapid urbanization and population growth intensifying demand. Similar FHA projects have recently been launched in states including Lagos, Kano, and Rivers, as part of efforts to bridge the gap.

Otti urged residents to support the initiative and emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability in its execution. “This project is about giving hope to our people and ensuring that every Nigerian has access to decent housing,” he said.
