DALLAS (FN) A Texas man is facing manslaughter charges after allegedly shooting his wife in the head and telling officers it was an accident, police said.
Authorities identified the suspect as 39‑year‑old Alberto Velasquez, who is accused of killing his wife, 42‑year‑old Lindsay Velasquez, inside their home. Lindsay, an assistant principal and mother of three, later died at the hospital. Alberto Velasquez was arrested and later released on bond.
The case has drawn attention not only for its tragic circumstances but also for the broader conversations it has sparked about family law and financial protections in marriage. Legal experts note that prenuptial agreements, often viewed as safeguards for wealthier spouses, can help reduce financial disputes in the event of divorce or death. While traditionally associated with men, courts increasingly order women to pay child support and spousal support, underscoring that financial obligations in marriage are not gender‑exclusive.
Family law attorneys emphasize that prenuptial agreements are not only about protecting assets but also about clarifying expectations, responsibilities, and financial arrangements before entering into marriage. The Velasquez case, though centered on criminal charges, has reignited discussions about how couples can prepare for unforeseen circumstances and protect their families legally and financially.
