Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State has provided financial support to pilgrims from his state performing the Hajj in Saudi Arabia, donating 1,000 Saudi Riyals about $120 to each of the 2,410 participants. The announcement was made in Mina by Sokoto’s Amirul Hajj, Muhammad Mai Gari Dingyadi, who said the assistance was designed to ease expenses as pilgrims conclude their spiritual journey and prepare for their return home.

Dingyadi described the donation as a Sallah package, underscoring the governor’s commitment to the welfare of Sokoto citizens. He commended the pilgrims for their discipline and respect for Saudi laws, noting that none had been involved in violations during the pilgrimage.

The gesture has drawn positive reactions from pilgrims and religious leaders, who said the support would help cover costs associated with their stay and travel. Community leaders accompanying the group praised the initiative as both thoughtful and practical, adding that it reflects the administration’s concern for citizens abroad.

Dingyadi emphasized that the Sokoto State government remains focused on improving the wellbeing of its people, both domestically and internationally. He said the administration would continue to prioritize initiatives that strengthen community support and provide assistance during major religious events.

He also urged pilgrims to offer prayers for peace, unity, and progress in Nigeria, as well as for the success of Governor Aliyu’s administration. “We encourage all pilgrims to pray for lasting peace and security in Sokoto State and across the country,” he said.

The donation highlights the role of state governments in supporting citizens during international religious gatherings, reflecting the intersection of governance, faith, and solidarity. It also reinforces the importance of cultural diplomacy, as Sokoto pilgrims were praised for representing Nigeria with dignity and respect throughout the Hajj.
