The Ogun State Government’s decision to reward the top ten Ogun Learn users with tablets reflects its broader ambition to entrench digital learning as a cornerstone of education in Nigeria. Commissioner Abayomi Arigbabu emphasized that the platform, powered by artificial intelligence and tailored to the Nigerian curriculum, has already reduced teachers’ workload by replacing handwritten lesson notes with digital tools for teaching, assignments, and assessments. He explained that Ogun Learn is part of a larger digital transformation agenda that includes platforms for education administration and scholarship management, all supported by a robust database that tracks teacher deployment, retirement schedules, infrastructure needs, and student movement.
Arigbabu noted that Ogun State’s leadership in education is being recognized nationally, with other states now adopting similar initiatives. He stressed that sustainability is central to the programme, with the government expanding its network of Ogun Learn ambassadors from just 11 to 110 teachers, alongside regular training sessions to deepen technology adoption. He added that the vision is to achieve fully digital classrooms where laptops, tablets, and mobile devices drive teaching and learning, ensuring that both students and teachers are equipped for the future.
The initiative has drawn praise from education stakeholders. Ogun State Teaching Service Commission Chairman Abiodun Sanyaolu commended teachers for embracing digital tools and pledged continued support for programmes that enhance professional development. He highlighted the role of the Ministry of Education and its partners in ensuring the success of OgunLearn and related projects.
Similarly, Nigeria Union of Teachers Chairman Noah Sewakanu, represented by Vice Chairman Adenaike Owolabi, applauded Governor Dapo Abiodun for making teaching more convenient and pledged the union’s support for initiatives that strengthen teachers’ digital skills. The OgunLearn programme, combining innovation, sustainability, and collaboration, underscores Ogun State’s determination to remain at the forefront of educational reform in Nigeria and to prepare its learners for a technology-driven future.
