YOLA, Nigeria (FN) — The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested four suspects in connection with an armed robbery at the Corpers’ Lodge inside Specialist Hospital, Jimeta, Yola, where dozens of corps members were attacked and robbed of their valuables.
Police spokesman Suleiman Nguroje said Friday that the suspects Elkana Ishaya, 17; Mubarak Abubakar, 22; Musa Umar, 30; and Kabiru Tanko, 20 — were arrested following an investigation by operatives attached to Karewa Area Command. Four mobile phones stolen during the incident were recovered.
The robbery occurred on June 27, when the suspects allegedly armed themselves with dangerous weapons, trespassed into the lodge, and robbed about 36 corps members of their belongings, including mobile phones.
Nguroje said investigations are ongoing to recover more stolen items and apprehend other members of the gang still at large. The suspects will be charged to court once investigations are completed.
Adamawa State Commissioner of Police Kabir Hassan reassured the public, particularly corps members, of the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property. He urged residents to report suspicious persons and movements to the nearest police station.
The incident has raised concerns about the safety of corps members serving in the state, highlighting broader challenges of insecurity across Nigeria.
