Akwa Ibom Police Recover Stolen Toyota Camry, Arrest Suspect

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has successfully recovered a stolen Toyota Camry vehicle and arrested the suspect, Otoabasi George Ime, in Uyo, the state capital. According to the command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, the suspect was apprehended on July 26, 2025, at about 9:30 PM, along Ikot Ekpene Road Main Park, while in possession of the stolen vehicle.

The vehicle was reported stolen on July 18, 2025, after its owner, a resident of Nto Obo 1 Midim community in Abak Local Government Area, parked it at a hospital park and discovered it missing before concluding his medical appointment. The police promptly embarked on a search operation, leading to the recovery of the vehicle and the arrest of the suspect. During interrogation, Otoabasi George Ime claimed to have purchased the car from a car stand located along Ikot Ekpene Road in Uyo Local Government Area.

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has taken the suspect and the recovered vehicle into custody for discreet investigation. The outcome of the investigation will be made public once it is concluded. This development showcases the command’s commitment to ensuring a safer society through intelligence-driven operations and proactive policing.

The police command has been working diligently to tackle crime and recover stolen properties in the state. In a related incident, the command recovered a stolen Toyota Matrix vehicle with registration number KRJ 944 in Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area of the state in June 2025.
