The Kemah Police Department has welcomed an extraordinary new recruit who is making headlines not just for his career change but also for his towering height. Standing at 7 feet, 3 inches, Jordan Wilmore, a former overseas basketball player, has joined the department as a cadet and is already drawing attention from the community and beyond.
Wilmore, who previously worked security in Kemah, said joining law enforcement had always been a dream. “It’s just a goal and dream aspiration I’ve always wanted to do,” he explained. “I’m more than just an athlete. I’ve always been big on community work—helping the homeless, helping people in need.” His towering presence quickly made him a local figure of interest even before officially entering the police academy.
Police Chief Raymond Garivey described Wilmore as a perfect fit for the department, noting not just his size but his character. “In my 34 years, I’ve never seen someone as big as Jordan,” the chief remarked. “He’s got a good personality, and he fits our family.” Garivey even met him personally before the buzz spread on social media, underscoring the excitement around his recruitment.
Wilmore’s unusual stature has presented some practical challenges for the department. Even the largest police vehicles are a tight squeeze, and the city is already working on arranging a custom patrol car, a specially fitted uniform, and a gun designed for his massive hands. Despite the adjustments needed, officials say the benefits of having him on the force far outweigh the logistical hurdles.
Wilmore is set to graduate from the police academy in December, and Chief Garivey believes he may become the tallest police officer in the country. For Wilmore, however, the mission goes beyond records. His focus remains on serving the community, building trust, and showing that even in a small department, a big difference can be made.
