The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has announced the successful neutralization of at least 25 terrorists in coordinated airstrikes carried out in Borno and Yobe states, as part of ongoing counterterrorism operations in the North-East. The operation, which targeted key hideouts of insurgent groups, is the latest in a series of intensified efforts by the military to weaken terrorist networks and restore stability to the region.
According to NAF authorities, the strikes were executed after credible intelligence revealed the movement and concentration of terrorists in forested areas between the two states. Surveillance missions confirmed that the insurgents were regrouping to launch fresh attacks on military bases and civilian communities before air assets were deployed to strike.
Fighter jets and attack helicopters reportedly engaged the terrorists in multiple waves of precision strikes, destroying their camps and eliminating scores of fighters in the process. Several motorcycles, weapons, and logistical supplies used by the insurgents were also destroyed during the offensive, further degrading their operational capacity.
Military sources disclosed that the operation was carried out under the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai, which has been actively targeting terrorist cells across the North-East. They emphasized that the successful airstrikes are part of a broader strategy to dismantle the terrorists’ supply chains, disrupt their movement, and deny them freedom of action in the region.
The Defence Headquarters commended the gallantry of the Air Force personnel, stressing that the operation demonstrated the effectiveness of joint military efforts in combating insurgency. Officials also reiterated the Armed Forces’ commitment to protecting the lives of civilians while ensuring that terrorists have no safe haven within Nigerian territory.
Residents in nearby communities reportedly expressed relief over the air operations, noting that persistent terrorist activity had made farming, trade, and daily life increasingly dangerous. Local leaders urged the military to sustain the pressure to ensure that peace and normalcy are fully restored.
The latest offensive adds to the growing list of successes recorded by Nigerian troops in the fight against insurgency, though security experts caution that more ground operations and community collaboration will be needed to consolidate the gains. The military has vowed to maintain momentum until terrorism is decisively defeated in the region.
