ATLANTA (FN) — A 21-year-old man was killed Saturday night on Interstate 75 in northwest Atlanta following a road rage shootout and a series of vehicle collisions, including one involving a police patrol car, authorities said.

The Georgia State Patrol (GSP) said the incident began when a sedan and a Ford pickup truck were involved in a road rage confrontation on I-75 northbound near Northside Drive. The sedan struck the rear side of the truck, prompting both vehicles to stop on the shoulder.

According to GSP, the driver of the sedan exited his vehicle and approached the truck. Gunfire was exchanged between the two drivers, though officials have not confirmed whether the sedan’s driver was shot.

Following the shootout, the man fell onto the interstate. Witnesses told investigators he was then struck by an unidentified vehicle that fled the scene.

Shortly afterward, an Atlanta Police Department (APD) officer driving a patrol car also hit the man, GSP said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as Damari Xavien Jordan. His official cause of death has not yet been determined.

No suspects have been named, and it remains unclear who initiated the gunfire. Authorities have not disclosed whether any weapons were recovered.

APD is leading the investigation into the road rage and shooting, while GSP is handling inquiries related to the hit-and-run and the police vehicle collision.

The incident temporarily shut down northbound lanes of I-75, causing significant traffic delays in the area.

Officials have urged anyone with information about the unidentified vehicle or the events leading up to the shootout to contact investigators as inquiries continue.
