ABUJA, Nigeria (FN) — President Bola Tinubu will adopt a cooperative and technology-driven approach to tackling Nigeria’s security challenges, according to Senator Jimoh Ibrahim.

Speaking in Abuja, Ibrahim said the administration’s strategy will emphasize inter-agency collaboration, regional partnerships, and the use of artificial intelligence to enhance surveillance and response capabilities.

“The president is deploying artificial intelligence to track criminal activity and ensure real-time coordination between security agencies,” Ibrahim said. “This is not just about increasing funding — it’s about transforming how we secure the nation.”

The remarks come amid growing concern over insecurity in parts of Nigeria, including terrorism, banditry, and communal violence. Ibrahim, who chairs the Senate Committee on Inter-Parliamentary Affairs, said the N4.91 trillion allocated to defense and security in the 2025 budget reflects Tinubu’s commitment to reform.

The cooperative model will include joint operations between the military and police, community-level intelligence gathering, and cross-border coordination with neighboring countries.

Public reaction has been mixed. Supporters say the strategy reflects a long-overdue modernization of Nigeria’s security system. Critics question whether the government can implement such reforms effectively, citing past failures in coordination and transparency.

Civil society groups have urged the administration to ensure that new technologies are used responsibly and do not infringe on civil liberties.

Ibrahim dismissed skepticism, saying, “This is not just talk. The budget backs it, and the president is committed to results.”

The announcement marks a shift from previous administrations’ reliance on isolated military campaigns, aiming instead for a unified national security framework that leverages both human and technological resources.
