Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has filed a petition against a judge of the Federal High Court, alleging misconduct in connection with a terrorism financing case.

The petition, submitted to the National Judicial Council (NJC), accuses the judge of obstructing proceedings and failing to properly handle matters related to individuals facing charges of financing terrorism. The EFCC claims that the judge’s actions undermined the agency’s efforts to prosecute suspects and compromised the integrity of the judicial process.

The case has drawn significant public attention, as terrorism financing remains a critical issue in Nigeria’s broader fight against insurgency and violent extremism. Legal analysts note that the petition reflects ongoing tensions between anti-corruption agencies and the judiciary, raising questions about accountability and the balance of power within Nigeria’s justice system.

Supporters of the EFCC argue that the petition is necessary to ensure transparency and strengthen the rule of law. Critics, however, caution that such actions could be perceived as interference with judicial independence, stressing the importance of due process in resolving disputes between institutions.

The NJC is expected to review the petition and determine whether disciplinary measures or further investigations are warranted.
