BEIJING (FN), China is expanding its nuclear weapons infrastructure, building new facilities and increasing its arsenal as global arms control agreements weaken.
Satellite imagery and defense assessments indicate construction of warhead plants and missile silo fields in Sichuan Province and other regions. The buildup reflects a shift from China’s long‑standing minimum deterrent posture toward a more robust nuclear force capable of rapid deployment.
China’s stockpile is estimated at about 600 warheads, with projections suggesting the number could exceed 1,000 by 2030.
