ABUJA (FM) Former Nigerian Vice President Atiku Abubakar on Thursday formally submitted his presidential nomination forms at the national headquarters of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), signaling his intent to contest in the upcoming election. On the same day, former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi also filed his nomination papers, setting the stage for a crowded and competitive race.
The development matters because both men are heavyweight figures in Nigerian politics. Atiku, a veteran of multiple presidential bids, brings decades of national experience and a reputation for resilience. Amaechi, a former transport minister and influential power broker from the oil‑rich Niger Delta, represents a different strand of political influence. Their simultaneous entry into the race underscores the intensity of Nigeria’s political season and the likelihood of fierce competition within and beyond party lines.
