The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has warned its members who are expressing support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027 to retract their statements or face stiffer sanctions. The party’s National Working Committee (NWC) expressed disappointment over the actions of some prominent members, describing them as anti-party and against the PDP’s constitution.

The PDP’s constitution, specifically Section 10 (6), states that no member of the party shall align with other parties or groups to undermine the party or any of its elected governments. The NWC cited this provision in its statement, emphasizing that members’ support for Tinubu’s re-election bid constitutes a serious threat to the party’s stability and sustenance.

Recently, some high-profile PDP members have publicly endorsed Tinubu’s re-election bid. Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose announced his support for Tinubu on July 28, 2025, during an APC event in Ado Ekiti. Fayose also endorsed the Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, and his deputy for a second term. Similarly, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke declared support for Tinubu’s re-election bid on July 23, 2025, following a strategic meeting with the PDP leadership caucus in Osogbo.

The PDP’s NWC has urged its members to remain loyal and focused, working towards the successful conduct of the party’s National Convention scheduled for November 15 and 16, 2025, in Ibadan. The party emphasized the need for its members to prioritize the party’s interests and unity, rather than aligning themselves with opposing parties.

The PDP’s warning to its members highlights the party’s determination to maintain its internal cohesion and uphold its constitutional provisions. The development also underscores the complexities of Nigerian politics, where party loyalty and alliances can shift rapidly.
