Bishop David Oyedepo has told members of his congregation to give kidnappers his phone number if they are ever abducted, a comment that has drawn wide attention in Nigeria.
Oyedepo, founder of the Living Faith Church Worldwide, made the statement during a sermon at the church’s headquarters in Ota, Ogun State. “If they pick you, give them my number,” he said, urging worshippers not to fear kidnappers.
Nigeria has faced rising insecurity in recent years, with abductions for ransom becoming a widespread concern. Oyedepo’s remarks were framed as an expression of faith and defiance, but they also highlight the anxiety many Nigerians feel about the threat of kidnapping.
The cleric, one of the country’s most prominent pastors, has often spoken out on national issues, including corruption, governance, and security. His latest comments have sparked debate on social media, with some praising his boldness and others questioning the practicality of his advice.
Authorities have not responded directly to the sermon, but security experts continue to warn citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity.
