Katsina Police Rescue Residents Amid Banditry Crackdown

KATSINA, Nigeria (FN) The Katsina State Police Command says it has foiled a banditry attack on communities in Dandume Local Government Area, arresting one suspected bandit and rescuing two injured residents.

In a statement released Wednesday, the command reported that the incident occurred late Tuesday around 10:00 p.m. when heavily armed bandits invaded Unguwar Bido and Unguwar Kanawa villages. Police operatives responded swiftly, engaging the attackers and preventing further harm to residents.

The rescued victims, who sustained injuries during the attack, were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Authorities said the arrested suspect is currently in custody and undergoing interrogation, while efforts are ongoing to track down other fleeing members of the gang.

The foiled attack comes amid heightened security operations across Katsina State, where banditry has plagued rural communities in recent years. Dandume, located in the southern part of the state, has been one of the areas most affected by raids on villages, kidnappings, and cattle rustling.

Police officials reiterated their commitment to safeguarding lives and property, urging residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by providing timely information.

This latest incident underscores the continuing challenge of banditry in northwestern Nigeria, where coordinated attacks on rural communities have prompted calls for stronger security measures and sustained government intervention.
