ABEOKUTA (FN), Former House of Representatives member Hon. Jimoh Ojugbele has emerged winner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial primary for Ogun West Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The primary election, held under tight security and monitored by party officials, saw Ojugbele secure 412 votes out of a total of 650 cast. His closest rival, Hon. Tunde Akinlabi, polled 178 votes, while another aspirant, Chief Abiola Adeyemi, recorded 60 votes. The exercise was described by observers as competitive, reflecting the high stakes of the senatorial contest in Ogun West.
Announcing the results, the APC returning officer praised the aspirants and delegates for conducting themselves peacefully. “This primary demonstrates our party’s commitment to internal democracy and transparency,” he said. “We congratulate Hon. Ojugbele and commend all aspirants for their courage and participation.”

In his acceptance speech, Ojugbele thanked party members and delegates for their confidence in him. “This victory is not mine alone; it belongs to the people of Ogun West,” he declared. “I pledge to represent our district with integrity, to fight for development, and to ensure our voices are heard at the national level.” He also extended an olive branch to his opponents, urging unity ahead of the general elections.
Party members and supporters reacted with enthusiasm, describing Ojugbele’s victory as a boost for the APC in Ogun West. “He has the experience and the grassroots connection to deliver,” said Mrs. Kemi Alade, a delegate from Yewa South. Others noted that his emergence could strengthen the party’s chances in Ogun State, where political alignments remain fluid.
Ojugbele’s political career spans decades. He previously represented Ado-Odo/Ota Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, where he served on key committees and was known for advocating industrial growth and youth empowerment. His return to frontline politics is seen as significant for Ogun West, a district often at the center of debates over equitable representation in the state.
Analysts say his victory underscores the APC’s strategy of fielding experienced politicians to consolidate its influence in Ogun State. However, they caution that internal disagreements and zoning controversies could still shape the party’s fortunes ahead of 2027. Rival parties are expected to mount strong challenges, making Ogun West one of the battlegrounds to watch.
