KANO, Nigeria (FN) — The Kano State Government has closed two private health training institutions in Nasarawa Local Government Area, citing regulatory violations and failure to meet minimum standards required for operating health schools.

The affected institutions are IBN SINA College of Health Science and Technology, located at Dakata Kawaji, and Life Line College of Health Science and Technology, situated at Dakata Industrial Area.

The state Ministry of Health announced the closures in a statement Tuesday, saying both schools were operating illegally without proper verification or approval from the ministry and lacked accreditation from relevant professional and regulatory bodies.

Investigations revealed major deficiencies, including inadequate qualified teaching staff, poor learning facilities, insufficient infrastructure and non-compliance with established educational standards. The ministry said the institutions also failed to adhere to professional ethics and regulatory guidelines designed to safeguard the quality of healthcare education.

“The Ministry of Health remains committed to protecting students, parents and the general public from institutions that compromise educational quality and professional standards,” the statement read.

Officials warned proprietors of health training institutions across Kano to comply strictly with legal and regulatory provisions. The government said shutting down non-compliant schools was necessary to ensure quality healthcare education, protect students’ interests and maintain excellence in healthcare service delivery.

The move underscores Nigeria’s broader struggle to regulate private educational institutions, particularly in the health sector, where poorly trained personnel can have direct consequences for public safety.
