WASHINGTON (FN) — The United States has deported a Nigerian national, Ayodeji Olamide Ajayi, after multiple criminal convictions, including domestic violence, as part of its ongoing immigration enforcement drive.
US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) said Tuesday that Ajayi entered the country in 2007 on a student visa but failed to leave after dropping out of school. Instead, he remained illegally and accumulated a criminal record that included convictions for domestic violence, trespassing, intimidation and obstruction. ICE also cited charges of kidnapping, rape and family neglect.
“Thanks to @POTUS’ commitment to getting criminal illegal aliens out of this country, Ajayi will be leaving the United States shortly,” the agency said in a statement posted on its official X account.
ICE did not disclose when the deportation was carried out or provide details about where the convictions occurred.
The deportation highlights the Trump administration’s continued crackdown on undocumented immigrants with criminal records. Immigration authorities have stepped up enforcement actions and removals, arguing that such measures protect public safety.
Ajayi’s case underscores broader debates over US immigration policy. Supporters of stricter enforcement say deporting individuals with serious criminal histories is necessary, while critics argue that the system often lacks transparency and due process.
Nigeria has not yet publicly commented on the deportation.
The case comes amid heightened political focus on immigration in the United States, where enforcement policies remain a central issue in domestic and international relations.
