Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress APC has officially launched its campaign for the upcoming local government elections in Ebonyi State, with party leaders urging supporters to mobilize voters ahead of the polls.

The campaign was flagged off at a gathering attended by senior party officials, government representatives and supporters from across the state. Party leaders used the event to present their candidates and outline their plans for grassroots development if elected into office.

Addressing supporters, APC leaders called for a peaceful and issue-based campaign, urging members to avoid violence and conduct themselves in line with electoral laws. They said the party remained committed to securing victory through democratic means while encouraging residents to participate actively in the elections.

The party also highlighted its achievements at both the state and federal levels, saying it would build on existing development efforts by improving basic services, infrastructure and community projects across local government areas.

Speaking at the rally, party officials expressed confidence in the APC’s chances at the polls, citing what they described as growing public support for the party’s policies and governance agenda. They encouraged candidates to engage directly with communities and focus on issues affecting everyday life.

The local government elections are expected to test the strength of political parties in Ebonyi, where grassroots politics often play a significant role in shaping broader electoral outcomes. Analysts say the contests will also provide an indication of public sentiment ahead of future statewide and national elections.

The campaign launch comes as political activities gather pace across the state, with parties intensifying efforts to reach voters through rallies, town hall meetings and community engagements. Security agencies and the electoral commission have repeatedly urged political actors to ensure campaigns remain peaceful and comply with electoral regulations.

Residents are expected to cast their votes to elect chairpersons and councillors who will oversee governance at the local government level. Local councils are responsible for delivering essential community services, including primary healthcare, sanitation, rural infrastructure and local economic development.

Political observers say the quality of the campaigns and the conduct of the elections will be closely watched, particularly as Nigeria continues efforts to strengthen democratic institutions and improve confidence in local governance.

As campaigning continues, attention is expected to shift toward candidates’ policy proposals and their ability to address the needs of communities across Ebonyi State, where voters will ultimately decide who leads their local councils for the next term.
