The Israeli military has confirmed launching a series of airstrikes on Houthi-controlled ports and a key power station in Yemen. The targets included Hudaydah, Ras Isa, and Saif ports, along with the Ras Kanatib power station, which supplies electricity to the Yemeni cities of Ibb and Taizz. According to the Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant, the strikes aimed to degrade Houthi military infrastructure and disrupt the growing threat from Yemen.

The Israeli Air Force said the latest strikes on Yemen’s ports were in response to “repeated attacks” by the Houthis on Israel and its citizens. The targeted ports were allegedly being used to transfer weapons from the Iranian regime to carry out terror plans against Israel and its allies. The Israeli military had urged civilians in the areas to evacuate, warning of imminent air strikes before the attack.

The Houthis confirmed that their air defenses confronted Israel’s strikes with missiles. The attack comes hours after a ship was attacked off the Red Sea port city of Hodeidah, and the ship’s crew abandoned it as it took on water. The Israeli military said the strikes were aimed at locations used for attacks on Israel and threats to global shipping in the Red Sea. Key targets included the seized merchant ship ‘Galaxy Leader’ and the Ras Qantib power plant, allegedly used for military activities.

The airstrikes mark the first Israeli attack on Yemen in almost a month. Residents reported that the Israeli strikes on the Red Sea port city of Hodeidah put the main power station out of service, leaving the city in darkness. There were no immediate reports of casualties.

The Israeli Defence Minister justified the strikes, stating they were necessary to address the repeated attacks on Israel. The situation remains tense, with the Houthis and Israel locked in a cycle of hostility.
