FIFA has unveiled the official schedule for the 2027 Women’s World Cup in Brazil, setting the stage for what will be the first edition of the tournament to be hosted in South America.

The competition is scheduled to begin on June 24, 2027, with the final set for July 25. A total of 32 teams will compete across 64 matches during the monthlong tournament.

The opening match and the final will both be played at Rio de Janeiro’s famous Maracanã Stadium. The historic venue has hosted major international football matches for decades, including games during the 1950 and 2014 men’s World Cups.

Eight Brazilian cities will host matches during the tournament. They are Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Brasília, Belo Horizonte, Fortaleza, Porto Alegre, Recife and Salvador.

The semifinals will be played in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, while São Paulo will also host the third place match. Quarterfinal games are scheduled for Belo Horizonte, Fortaleza, Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo.

Brazil, as the host country, will open its group-stage campaign at the Maracanã. The hosts will then travel to São Paulo and Brasília for their remaining group matches.

The tournament will feature some of the biggest names in women’s football, with teams from across the world competing for the sport’s most prestigious international title. The expanded 32 team format is expected to provide greater opportunities for nations from different regions to compete on the global stage.

Spain will arrive as the defending champions after winning their first Women’s World Cup title in 2023. The United States, meanwhile, remain the most successful team in the tournament’s history, having won the competition four times.

Brazil will be looking to make the most of home advantage as it pursues a first Women’s World Cup crown. The Brazilian women previously reached the final in 2007 but have yet to lift the trophy.

The decision to stage the tournament in Brazil is also being viewed as an important moment for women’s football in South America. With the continent hosting the competition for the first time, organisers hope the event will attract large crowds, expand the sport’s audience and inspire greater investment in women’s football.

With the schedule now confirmed, attention will shift to qualification, the tournament draw and preparations among the participating nations. Football fans around the world will have plenty to look forward to when the competition begins in June 2027.
