SAN ANTONIO, Texas (FN) — Authorities in Texas confirmed Tuesday that a body discovered in northwest Bexar County is believed to be that of 19‑year‑old Camila Mendoza Olmos, who went missing on Christmas Eve.
Sheriff Javier Salazar said the body was found late Monday afternoon in a field about 100 yards from Olmos’ home. The clothing matched what she was last seen wearing on Dec. 24.
Deputies and FBI agents had already searched the area once but returned due to tall grass. Within 10 minutes of resuming, investigators located the body around 4:40 p.m., Salazar said.
The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy to confirm the identity and cause of death. Salazar emphasized that “at this point we don’t suspect foul play,” though the investigation remains ongoing.
Olmos’ disappearance had drawn widespread concern in the San Antonio area, where several recent reports of missing teenagers have unsettled families and community leaders.
Neighbors described Olmos as a quiet young woman who often helped her family. “We were all hoping she would be found safe,” said one resident. “This is heartbreaking for everyone here.”
Authorities said Olmos’ family has been notified and is receiving support. Salazar asked the public to respect their privacy as they await official confirmation.
The sheriff’s office said additional patrols will continue in the area as investigators review evidence and witness statements. Officials urged residents to report any suspicious activity, though they reiterated that no signs of criminal involvement have been found.
The discovery comes amid heightened awareness of missing persons cases in Texas, where advocates have called for stronger coordination between local agencies and federal partners.
For now, the community is left mourning the loss of a young woman whose disappearance on Christmas Eve ended in tragedy just days later. “It’s not the outcome we wanted,” Salazar said. “But at least her family can begin to find answers.”
