Iran’s top security official has warned that the country will retaliate against any strike on its infrastructure, saying Israel would face consequences as regional tensions involving the United States continue to rise.
Mohammad Bagher Zolghadr, head of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, issued the warning in a statement broadcast on state television. He said Iran would respond directly to attacks on critical facilities and insisted that Israel “will not be safe from the response of our fighters,” a remark reflecting Tehran’s alarm over recent exchanges of fire between Iranian‑aligned groups and U.S. forces.
The comments come amid a broader escalation across the Middle East, where Iran and Israel have long been locked in a shadow conflict involving cyberattacks, covert operations, and proxy forces. In recent weeks, U.S. troops have been targeted by militias backed by Tehran, prompting retaliatory strikes that Iran says threaten its sovereignty and infrastructure.
Zolghadr’s warning underscores Iran’s position that any further escalation will be met with force, raising concerns among international observers about the risk of a wider confrontation. Analysts say the latest rhetoric highlights the fragile security environment across the region, where miscalculation by any party could trigger a broader conflict affecting global energy markets and diplomatic efforts.
Israel has not publicly responded to Zolghadr’s remarks, and U.S. officials have urged all sides to avoid actions that could inflame tensions. The United States and its allies continue to monitor the situation closely as they assess the potential for further clashes involving Iranian‑aligned groups.
