Here is My Guidance On How To Now Address Lawyers
Using the name Emeka Ibiono Ibom as an example. There are several ways to address a lawyer.
Attorney Ibom is the proper way to address a lawyer.
In court, a lawyer may be addressed as Counsel or Counselor. Even outside of court.
In writing, a lawyer may be addressed as Mr. E. I. Ibom or E. I. Ibom, Esq.
In everyday conversation, a lawyer may still be addressed colloquially as Barrister Ibom or DiBar.
This brings Nigeria closer to how lawyers are addressed in the United States, except for the last part.
We don’t use Barrister or DiBar in the U.S. It is used exclusively in Nigeria and most lawyers may like it like that.
It is really time to do away with the silly wig as well.
