Democracy Day Celebration: FG Lays Groundwork for 2025 Events

The Federal Government has inaugurated an inter-ministerial committee to plan the 2025 Democracy Day celebration, with the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, appointed as chairman. The committee has lined up several activities to mark the occasion, including a World Press Briefing on Friday, June 6, 2025, a Special Juma’at Service on the same day, a Church Service on Sunday, June 8, 2025, a Youth programme on Tuesday, June 9, 2025, a public lecture on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, and a Presidential broadcast alongside a parade on Thursday, June 12, 2025.

The committee comprises key government officials, including ministers, heads of security agencies, and permanent secretaries. Some of the notable members include the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, and Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo. The committee is expected to ensure the successful planning and execution of the 2025 Democracy Day celebration.
