The Kano State Government has issued a public health advisory urging residents to ensure that animals meant for sacrifice during the upcoming Eid-el-Kabir festival are healthy and certified fit for consumption. The warning aims to safeguard public health and prevent the spread of zoonotic diseases.

According to the state Ministry of Health, residents are advised to buy and slaughter only healthy animals, ensure thorough cooking of meat to kill harmful microorganisms, maintain strict hygiene, especially for mothers and food handlers, and wash meat with clean water before cooking or storing.

The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, has reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to preventive healthcare and urged the public to adhere to medical guidelines during the festivities. The government has warned that diseases in animals can be transmitted to humans if meat is not properly handled, cooked, or preserved.

In preparation for the celebration, the state Ministry of Health has assured residents that state-owned hospitals have been stocked with essential drugs and emergency supplies under the directive of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf. By following these guidelines, residents can minimize the risk of contamination and ensure a safe and healthy Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
