KATSINA, Nigeria (FN), The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has rejected a purported state congress held in Katsina, describing it as illegal and unconstitutional.

Atiku Abubakar-Saleh, chairman of the Katsina State Congress Committee and ADC Deputy National Organising Secretary, told reporters Tuesday that the committee was duly constituted by the party’s National Working Committee to conduct credible and transparent congresses across the state.

He explained that the official schedule sets ward and local government congresses for Wednesday, followed by the state congress on Thursday. Abubakar-Saleh emphasized that only the congress committee and its screening committee, led by Dr. Sulaiman Maiyawo, are legally recognized to oversee the process.

“Any gathering or exercise conducted outside the authority of the approved committees is null, void, and of no consequence,” he said, warning that such moves undermine party unity and democratic processes.

The ADC leadership urged members and stakeholders to support the official process and appealed to security agencies to remain vigilant against attempts to disrupt public order under the guise of party congresses.

The development comes amid wider leadership disputes within the party, with courts in Adamawa and Katsina recently issuing injunctions halting planned congresses pending resolution of internal conflicts.
