E-Money Presents ₦50m Cheque to Carter Efe After Defeating Portable in Celebrity Boxing Showdown

LAGOS, Nigeria (FN), Business mogul Emeka Okonkwo, popularly known as E-Money, has presented a ₦50 million cheque to comedian-turned-musician Carter Efe following his victory over singer Portable in a celebrity boxing match that has dominated Nigeria’s entertainment headlines.

The bout, staged on May 1 at Balmoral Hall, Federal Palace Hotel in Victoria Island, Lagos, was part of the Chaos in the Ring 4 series. Portable, who had previously defeated Charles Okocha and Speed Darlington to claim two belts, entered the fight as the favorite. Carter Efe, making his boxing debut, promised to shock fans with his composure and technique.

The three-round contest lived up to its billing. Portable opened aggressively in the first round, throwing wild punches in his trademark chaotic style. Efe absorbed the pressure, countering with uppercuts and body shots. By the second round, Efe had gained control, landing cleaner combinations while Portable’s swings grew less effective. In the final round, Efe dictated the pace, consistently finding his mark as Portable tired. Judges scored the fight 30–27 in favor of Efe, handing him a unanimous decision victory.

The clash was fueled by weeks of heated exchanges on social media, with both entertainers trading insults and promises of victory. A reported ₦50 million prize added financial weight to the rivalry, further stoking public anticipation.

E-Money’s cheque presentation after the fight was captured in widely shared videos, sparking praise for his generosity and cementing Carter Efe’s triumph as more than just a sporting win. Fans hailed the gesture as a boost to Efe’s career, while Portable vowed to bounce back despite the loss.

On platforms like Instagram and X (formerly Twitter), hashtags such as #EMoney, #CarterEfe, and #Portable trended, with commentators debating the rise of celebrity boxing as a mainstream spectacle in Nigeria. Organizers described the event as “the biggest boxing show Nigeria has ever seen,” claiming billions of views across streaming platforms.

Industry analysts say the fight underscores the merging of sports, entertainment, and business in Nigeria’s pop culture, with celebrity boxing now serving as both a stage for rivalry and a platform for entertainers to expand their influence.
