ABUJA, Nigeria (AP) — Nigeria’s Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has released the results of the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination mop‑up exercise, giving thousands of candidates another chance to pursue admission into higher institutions.

JAMB’s Public Communication Advisor, Fabian Benjamin, announced Tuesday that candidates can now access their scores through the board’s approved result‑checking channels. He said the board will immediately begin ranking candidates, with printing of results for admission purposes expected to start before the weekend.

The mop‑up exam, held June 13, was organized for candidates who were biometrically verified for the main UTME but could not sit for the test due to technical glitches, verification challenges, or disruptions at their centers. The main 2026 UTME took place between April 16 and April 25.

The exercise underscores the importance of standardized testing in Nigeria’s higher education system, where millions of students compete annually for limited university spaces. Globally, the move reflects broader efforts by examination bodies to ensure fairness and access, particularly in contexts where technology failures or logistical issues can affect large numbers of candidates.
