DUBLIN, Ireland — A 39-year-old Nigerian real estate executive, Edwin Omokhuale, has been arrested at Dublin Airport in connection with an alleged fraud of about $23 million involving an Australian mining company, British authorities said. The United Kingdom’s National Crime Agency, or NCA, said the alleged fraud took place in early 2023 and targeted the Australian company. The agency has not said that Omokhuale has been convicted of any offense, and the allegations remain subject to legal proceedings.
Omokhuale was arrested at Dublin Airport while preparing to board a flight to Paris, according to the NCA. Extradition proceedings to the United Kingdom are now underway.
The case highlights the increasingly international nature of financial crime investigations, in which suspects, victims, financial transactions and assets can span several countries.
