Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara says the ongoing reconstruction of the state secretariat complex in Port Harcourt will be completed and ready for use by the first quarter of 2027.

Fubara made the announcement Monday after inspecting the expansive high-rise buildings located in the Old GRA area of the city. The tour followed a similar visit earlier this year, which the governor said was necessary to confirm the progress of work inside the complex.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Onwuka Nzeshi, Fubara noted that while the exterior of the secretariat has already taken on a new look, he wanted to personally assess the interior renovations. “I think that with the progress of work here, by the grace of God, I believe that by the first quarter of next year, it will be handed over to the government,” he said.

The Rivers State Secretariat was originally built in the 1970s, shortly after the state was created in 1967. The current renovation is a comprehensive upgrade designed to modernize the facility and improve its functionality for civil servants.

The complex includes several major structures: the 17story “Point Block,” the 10-story “Podium Block,” and three additional seven-story buildings known as Blocks A, B, and C. The project involves structural rehabilitation, redesigned office layouts, installation of modern facilities, and upgraded utilities to meet present-day administrative standards.

According to the governor, the reconstruction is aimed at creating a more conducive, efficient, and technology-driven work environment. He reaffirmed his commitment to completing all projects initiated under his administration, saying, “Like I promised, every job that we are handling, we will ensure that we bring them to completion.”
