Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike has approved the promotion of 3,592 civil servants following the completion of the 2025 promotion exercise conducted by the FCT Civil Service Commission. The decision, announced on Wednesday by the commission’s chairman, Emeka Ezeh, is part of efforts by the Federal Capital Territory Administration to improve staff welfare and recognize career progression within the public service.
According to the commission, promotion examinations for senior officers were held from July 1 to July 3, while junior staff completed their examinations on July 10. Ezeh said the successful completion of the exercise reflected the administration’s commitment to ensuring that eligible workers are promoted when due. He added that Wike has also directed the commission to begin the 2026 promotion exercise immediately to prevent delays in future promotions.
Ezeh said the minister’s approval aligns with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which seeks to improve public service delivery alongside ongoing infrastructure development in the nation’s capital. He noted that while the FCT has recently completed and inaugurated several infrastructure projects, the administration believes civil servants should also benefit through timely promotions and improved career opportunities. He commended Wike for supporting the commission throughout the exercise and praised workers for maintaining order and professionalism during the promotion process.
Public sector experts say regular promotions can boost employee morale, strengthen productivity and improve the efficiency of government institutions. Nigeria’s civil service remains central to the implementation of government policies, making workforce motivation an important element of public administration. Analysts say the latest promotions could reinforce confidence among FCT employees while signaling the administration’s intention to combine infrastructure development with investment in human capital as governance reforms continue.
